ANNIE HOOKER

Annie was born in San Francisco and attended the California College of the Arts where she received her BFA.

"Having been born and raised in San Francisco, CA I feel very lucky to have been exposed to a lot of substantial and important art work at a young age. Growing up three blocks away from the Legion of Honor museum allowed to me spend time with some incredible and classical pieces of art history that fed my love for representational art. My painting has seemed to always have traces of a longing for a time in the past. The current themes in my work still touch on nostalgia and memory, but a determination to bring the past ideals into the present moment. My paintings intend to expose mundane memories and past experiences that aren't even my own and not a part of my generation, and to see them from a completely objective point of view. Like re-writing someone's autobiography through my own filter of experience, environment and desires."

"While I realize that what I am about to say can be completely taboo in an "artist statement", it's honest. I'm absolutely obsessed with paint. I love it. I love looking at paintings and making them. I love smelling them and seeing brushstrokes. I love challenging myself everyday with this endless medium."
